Bringing Healthcare to the Most Vulnerable:

In 2015, within the halls of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), a dream was born that today impacts thousands of lives: the International Network of Christian Doctors, now known as Medinchrist. This organization was founded by Dr. Gardy Helvé, who at the time was a senior medical student and a social leader committed to the most vulnerable communities of Santo Domingo, the southern and southwestern regions of the Dominican Republic, and western Haiti.

From the beginning, Dr. Helvé played a crucial role as the coordinator of the community health group Mateo y Mateo, under the supervision of the Sectoral Office of Planning and Institutional Development (OSEPLANDI) at UASD. It was within this context that the urgent need for a medical organization dedicated to underserved communities became evident. Together with his colleagues and classmates, he shaped AMEDICA Medinchrist with the mission of providing medical care, health education, and hope to the most in-need populations.

Since its founding, AMEDICA Medinchrist has grown exponentially, organizing medical missions, training programs, and health education talks in marginalized communities. The organization has partnered with churches, neighborhood associations, and non-profit organizations, providing comprehensive medical care and distributing free medications. Thanks to these efforts, thousands of people have received treatment and hope. To date, we have served over 100,000 people in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Colombia, reaching communities in Medellín, Cali, and Bucaramanga.

Our community work is based on the belief that health is a fundamental right and that no one should be left behind. In every medical mission, we have treated children, adults, and the elderly who lack access to basic healthcare services. We have trained hundreds of volunteers in first aid and preventive education, strengthening the community fabric in every place we reach.

However, the medical need in our region remains immense. While there are many governmental and multinational organizations working for health, it is crucial to implement projects like AMEDICA Medinchrist, which advocate for equitable healthcare access through education, medical care, and prevention. Health is a fundamental right, and to make it a reality, we must extend our work to all communities, no matter how remote.

Today, we are taking another significant step forward. We are in the process of establishing a Community Medical Center in Haiti, specifically in the northeastern region near the Dajabón border. This center will provide free medical care to the country's poorest population, replicating the humanitarian healthcare model we have developed in Santo Domingo for over eight years.
